Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Feedback in: Overall, I think I've been getting some pretty useful feedback from people. The comments I find the most useful are the ones who compliment me on very specific things, so I know what I'm doing good. Similarly, the comments that tell me minor things I need to change are very helpful.

Feedback Out: I really enjoy reading people's stories, so most of the time I think my comments flow naturally. Looking at other people's stories help me realize what I'm looking for in my stories.

Blog Comments: I love reading people's blogs because it's the best way to know what kind of person they are. There are so many different people with different majors and lives and it's cool reading how people describe themselves.

Looking Forward: In the future I think I'm going to try to make my comments less fluff and more specific. I think my comment wall looks good but I'll continue to look at it and read what people have to say.

This one is really useful because as writers we already have the big picture of where our story is going in our minds, but we forget that it takes small steps to get there. (A cat sleeping while reading from  Wikimedia Commons ) I am absolutely horrible at procrastinating (or good at it I guess?) Time management is not my best skill, but even if I'm up til 2 a.m. I will finish what I start. I read the article  3 Steps to Recapture Time  and I really liked how it talked about how it's okay to say no to things that don't fit into your plans. I have a hard time saying no, but I know that sometimes I have to put myself first in order to thrive later on. The second article,  How to build a realistic study plan , helped me think about the importance of writing down your goals and schedules. I have a bad habit of telling myself I'll do something, then just kind of putting it off until later that night. If I write it down somewhere like in my planner, it will be harder to avoid because it is on paper that I am going to be doing something at that time. Reading Notes: British North America Part A

This week I decided to focus on names. The names of people, places, and the worlds in these stories are all unique. I find it very interesting that the majority of these have absolutely zero named characters, or the names are just Bear or Raven. I think it says a lot about the culture of these stories and how whenever they are being passed down the names aren’t important, but the messages are. It allows the storyteller to focus on the most important parts and not minor details. Beliefs - Bella Coola Bella Coola is a cool name, pun intended, and it was hard for me to find an actual definition. It mainly means people who live by the Bella Coola River, and can refer to the Nuxalk people. “Afraid of Nothing” is a the name of a goddess who created the world and lives in one of the upper heavens. Creation of the World Wyandot Big Turtle and Old Toad are the names of the characters in this story. There are not a lot of named characters in these stories, rather general term...
